Threads were pulled on 11 September 2026 from the Arctic Shift Reddit archive by searching post titles in r/Amsterdam, r/Netherlands, r/AskNetherlands, r/travel, r/solotravel, r/Europetravel and r/TravelNoPics for day-trip questions, destination names and Netherlands itineraries, then keeping threads that ask for or report trips out of Amsterdam. Every comment in each kept thread was scanned for 39 destination name patterns. A commenter counts once per destination, regardless of how many threads or comments they wrote. A mention is filed as a warning when the sentence naming the place contains discouraging language (skip, not worth, tourist trap, overrated, disappointing and similar); everything else counts as a recommendation. The original poster, moderators and bots are excluded.
The method is keyword-based, so treat counts as a floor with some noise: a comment that says "Zaanse Schans is fine but Kinderdijk is better" credits both places, and a city mentioned only as a transit point is still counted. Distances are road kilometres from Amsterdam Centraal; travel times are the usual fastest NS or bus journey and were checked against operator timetables on the same day.
